Case Study
A sample of our field experience in edge-computing technology applications, projects and custom-designed hardware for various industries.
Case Study : Deck Control Device
New deck control device (DCD) to be used for controlling unmanned aerial refueler. CTI and partners in working committee.
The unmanned aerial refueler, is the first operational, carrier-based unmanned aircraft. The operator-worn, remote-control DCD was successfully tested during a multi-day demonstration.
The demonstration preceded sea trials to take place in the coming months.
Case Study : Portable Telecommunications
The client needed telecommunications to be very robust against elements, no backdoor, low-power, and portable. CTI was engaged to provide a processor module that is not OS based, programmable, and wide-temperature.
CTI and its partners provided such a module with customization. Since then deployment stands at more than 16,000 units (2019 - present).
Case Study : Civil Defence
The client required a system to protect vital and fragile infrastructure from commercial drones. CTI was contacted to provide industrial electronic hardware as the heart of the system.
CTI and partners were able to provide such hardware customized for such application. Together with the local contractor’s intellectual software, the system successfully passed PoC and since then is deployed at key locations throughout that country.
Case Study : Land . Agriculture Survey
A project was commissioned which drones could fly over huge plantations sending data back to central system with real-time information of the health and life-span of forest trees, plantation, crops and geo-elevation. CTI was called to action, again, for hardware-development of the Drone with edge-computing technologies.
CTI and its partners provided x86 fast-processing hardware as the Drone’s central nervous system with encrypted communication protocol back to hive-system which incorporated CTI’s solution. The project successfully passed prototyping and PoC phases. Sets of drones and hive-system have since been built and deployed.
Case Study : Medical A.I. Blood Equipment
An Institution needed support in developing an off-the-shelf computer board from several points of view: CE compliance, long term availability, and cost effectiveness. CTI and its partners modified a commercial reference ARM-based SBC, going through certification process supplying all the needed pre-compliance information
CTI was able to provide a cost-effective solution, quickly responding to the Institute’s needs. CTI together with partners were extremely fast in the redesigning of the board to adapt it to certification requirements.
Case Study : Marine Navigation
A Leading company in development, production of marine systems contacted CTI to develop a solution for the central control panel pc that can provide accurate nautical chart with GPS, connect other devices like sonar, radar and laser sensor.
The alliance (Leading company, CTI and partners) evaluated board design, develop Android BSP and a multi-OS environment as requested by the client and customized parts of the hardware with an outstanding time to market of 5 months.
Product used : MAIA, Modulo Qseven® Rel. 2.1 with NXP i.MX 8 CPU
Interactive Navigation System with PCAP helping passengers to finding shortest route to destination in the Metro
Case Study : Metro Info System
A Leading company in the development, production, and integration of electronic systems for specialized purposes Metro and Railways contacted CTI to find a modular solution to fulfill several requirements by the customer for latest Metro Passenger Information System for the Metro
CTI supplied both Arm and X86 solutions, built according to Railway Regulations, including LINUX BSP.
Case Study : Legacy Data Center Upgrade
A multinational online game company needed to extend longevity of its data centers and numerous workstations instead of the costly overhauling with new equipment. CTI was recommended for a cost-effective solution proposal.
CTI (together with partners) upgraded all the server and workstation memory (which were already commercially discontinued), and upgraded network equipment for improved intranet, internet bandwidth and firmware built-in cybersecurity.
Case Study : Cloud . AI Farms
A client wanted to establish data center and AI farms for computation and data-rendering. Its preferred contractor contacted CTI to assist with the turnkey-project and deployment.
CTI (bringing partners) provided the hardware and integration of all equipment and components and all aspects of security, location geographic stability, triple honey-pot access. This project involved several major vendors and involved great logistics experience. This project was co-managed by that preferred contractor and CTI. The project was successfully deployed under very tight timeframe.
Case Study : 3D Imaging System
In anticipating the future of virtual-reality shopping, a project was commissioned to develop a system which takes images of an item in horizontal 360 degrees and vertical 230 degrees and which all images are processed to make an accurate 3D representation of the item with depth. The system includes 12 6-meter tall arched towers, each embedded with 16 4K-cameras.
CTI proposed cost-effective edge-computing hardware and data-collection server as 1 set. The system passed PoC (Proof of Concept) and from 2019 – present, 12 sets of systems with various tower sizes (3meter to 24meter) have been deployed.
Case Study : Over-The-Counter (OTC)
The client commissioned an OTC system with edge-computing functionality. with which their staff can front customers and data sent to-fro the data center. The front-end system was to be deployed in its many sales locations. Its contractor contracted CTI to provide the hardware solution and integration.
CTI co-managed this turnkey project with the contractor. More than 20,000 front-end systems have been deployed over 3 years. This successful deployment caught the attention of the Immigration Authority and CTI has submitted a 5 year proposal of a very advanced OTC system, complete with Biometrics and makeup-removal processing, to the Immigration Authority.
Case Study :
Neural Network Oncology
(Tomography . Mammography . AI)
The deployment of a system to quickly and effectively diagnose cancer via mass screening was commissioned and the main contractor engaged CTI to assist in procurement and installation.
The project has successfully passed PoC. And is still on-going.
